Among them will be some familiar names from ultrarunning community. Some of them will be helping fellow runners as pacemakers – popularly called the rabbits.
If you would like to bring your marathon PB under three hours you can join . He will helo you achieve your goal and tell you about his Spartathlon experiences to keep the spirit high. , and will also be there to help you to the finish of the marathon.
Why a rabbit?
The job of the rabbit is quite simple. Run as smoothly as possible and reach the finish slightly bellow the designated time, help others by keeping their pace, motivate them, bring them through hard spells, be funny and smile all the time. Did I mention that you get to drag a balloon behind you? A dream job, I tell you.
The following article and the photo were published in the Finance newspaper in the year 2007 when the rabbits were introduced to the Ljubljana marathon.
You can recognize Zdravko Čufar, Inot Klemenčič (from the left) and yours truly (second from the right).
Nice pictures, especially the guys with Bugs Bunny!
Cheers!
Thanks. These balloons were fun. But they were filled with helium and it was a cold morning. The result was that we were dragging them on the ground behind us while running.
It was a great experience none the less
I love the idea of pacemakers, especially for a longer event. And I think I might be able to use that as an analogy for a concept…Thanks!
When do we get the balloons in the stadium events? They add a nice touch!
We do organize a recreational 10 km run in the stadium. It is only 25 times around the track
But we didn’t think of rabbits and baloons. A good idea for the next year
great photos
… great Bugs Bunnies
… congrats 😉
